Backstory
Though the days of good fortune seem so far away for Ana, if she tries hard enough, she can remember a time when it didn’t feel like everything was going against her – but she just barely remembers. These days, no matter what she does to help better herself, no matter how much time and hard work she puts into something in her life, it always seems like someone else receives the benefits of her struggles. Well, that’s because they are.
What Anna doesn’t know about herself is that she has the ability to change aspects of a situation to increase the probability that they will work out for someone else instead. Seems like a great way to help someone else achieve their goals and live their dream life! But it comes at a cost. To increase someone else’s chanced to succeed, she sacrifices her own chances, altering her own situation in a way that sets her up to fail.
Without knowledge of her own abilities, her overall good nature as a person leaves her to be the victim of her own circumstances again and again and again. It all began to unravel for her when one of her coworkers was hoping to get a promotion and soon! Ana told her coworker she would put good vibes out into the universe and without knowing it, she actually did. This set off a chain reaction of things. These good vibes caused a nearby coworker to become dizzy and lose his balance. As he fell forward, he knocked Anna’s coffee over spilling it on the tablet she used to organize meetings and events for her boss. As it powered off, she received an invite to meet with one of the company’s biggest clients. The invite was for later that day. Instead of calling her boss to let her know that she was unable to log into her computer, she reached for the key on her desk, but opened the drawer holding her back-up to make sure she didn’t miss anything, even before attempting to clean up the mess. As she reached out, she saw the key as it hydroplaned toward edge of her desk. It fell between her desk and a large filing cabinet, both of which were bolted to the ground with no space to reach in for the key.
She decided to call her boss finally, but she had just left while they attempted to reach the key and due to some commotion outside of her office with a coffee spill, she had forgotten to remove the forward from her cell phone to her work phone. She attempted to log into her computer but the spill had caused a short, so she was unable to power it on. By the time she got someone to come and fix the computer in her office, it was already too late to respond to the invite and the client cancelled their accounts with the company due to a lack of customer focus. This led Anna to lose her job. She later heard that the coworker who was hoping for a promotion had gotten one. A fancy new title with her own office and a brand new list of responsibilities, all previously belonging to Anna.
Putting her good vibes out for coworker to get a promotion caused the events that lost Anna her job, which opened the position that the coworker took when she got her promotion. Enhancing the quality of life for another at the expense of her own. And that was only the beginning. Her constant need to help others above herself had her abilities firing on all cylinders, creating misfortune for her every time someone else needed something.
Due to these events, Anna now lives on the street, sad, alone and surrounded by a large community of individuals who need something more to survive.
She understands that the number of things working against her was statistically impossible – what remains a mystery is what she did to deserve such a quick and viscous decline to her quality of life! She attempted to turn to religion, but no matter where she went there were more and more people in need, causing her powers to continue to sacrifice her positive energies to help those around her. Her ability is going to kill her if she doesn’t somehow figure out how to control it.
